Michelle Byrd, LCSW-S
Welcome to Nurturing Nature Child and Family Therapy. I am glad you are here. My name is Michelle and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I received a Master of Social Work with a focus in Direct Practice in Children and Families from the University of Texas at Arlington. While I have over twenty years of experience working with individuals across the developmental lifespan, I am passionate about working with children, adolescents, and their families.

Social Work was a calling for me that developed after a couple of career changes. I was a teacher after completing my Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in the Field of Education. After switching to cost analysis for 10 years, I decided I did not want to do that the rest of my life. I chose social work because I felt that it came naturally to me with the desire to help others.
I have had the opportunity to work with a vast array of populations including children in foster care or who have been adopted, severely mentally ill adults and adolescents at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, as well as children and families at a children’s medical hospital. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for working with children and adolescents and helping them find their voice.
Over the years, my love for working with children, youth and their families has grown. Using a cognitive behavioral approach and an attachment-based perspective, my therapy style is encouraging and supportive. I have extensive experience and training working with children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, peer relationships, family dynamics, and ADHD. I believe that each individual has their own unique story to tell. Due to this, I feel that an individual cannot be defined by their present circumstances, but should instead take into consideration the different pieces of their story from the past and the pieces left to be added. I am grateful to be in a position that allows me to hear clients' stories, walk alongside children and families as they encounter various struggles, and develop new ways to combat and heal from the hardships that they have endured along their journey.
