Heather Johnson, M. Ed, LPC-Associate
Welcome to Nurturing Nature! My name is Heather Johnson. I graduated from West Texas A&M University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor- Associate under the supervision of Michelle Byrd, LCSW-S and Rosanne C. Juarez, LPC-S.
For over 20 years, I have worked as a middle school educator, helping adolescents learn how to play musical instruments successfully, while also nurturing their social and emotional learning. During the Covid pandemic, I witnessed firsthand the growing need for accessible, compassionate mental health support. That experience inspired me to pursue my Master’s degree and transition into counseling. In addition to my work at Nurturing Nature, I currently serve as a school-based mental health therapist.
My counseling style is active, collaborative, and engaging. I'm drawn to approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and solution-focused techniques. I also value integrating creative arts into the therapeutic process whenever it's helpful-especially for clients who express themselves best beyond words.
I wholeheartedly believe that mental health IS health, and that every person deserves to feel their very best. It's a privilege to help clients recognize their innate worth and remember that they are never alone. I have extensive experience supporting adolescents and adults through depression, social anxiety, performance anxiety, self-esteem challenges and more. Adolescence, in particular, can be an overwhelming and confusing season of life, and I’m passionate about helping young people build resilience, confidence, and clarity as they grow. I’m currently focused on expanding my experience across all age groups and meeting clients wherever they are in their journey.
Those who know me often describe me as an introvert who can step into extroversion when needed. I’ve been called kind, collaborative, creative, compassionate, and hardworking—qualities I strive to bring into every counseling relationship. Outside of work, my home is happily ruled by my dog, Piper, and my two very spoiled cats, Mika and Maizy. I’m also a proud aunt to two nephews and a niece. When I’m not in session, you’ll likely find me making music, painting, or drawing. I love playing the viola, violin, and piano—creative outlets that continue to inspire both my life and my work.
